“Mike is a lifelong resident of Tazewell County and has served as a Tazewell County Supervisor since 2006.  A third generation coal miner, former Director of Human Resources at James River Coal Company, and owner of HYPerformance Management Consultants – Mike and his wife, Cecelia, raised their two sons here and know the issues we face in Southwest Virginia.

Breast Cancer Awareness

The Tazewell County Board of Supervisors provided the Tazewell & Richlands High School girls volleyball teams with pink shirts and socks for their Breast Cancer awareness game played at THS on October 22nd. RHS won the Varsity competition while THS took the Junior Varsity match.

A Top Managed SWVA County

Since Mike first took office in Tazewell County, the outside auditing firm for the county has reported it is one of the best managed in Southwest Virginia. This is why they had $2.8 million in surplus funding during 2013.

4-H Program

The 4-H program prepares young people to step up to the challenges in their community and the world. Using research-based programming around positive youth development, 4-H youth get the hands-on real world experience they need to become leaders. Mike supports the program to help the children of Southwest Virginia reach their full potential.

County Roads

County roads are the life line to the residents of the rural areas Mike represents. Because there are so many orphan roads in the Tazewell County Southern district, he has made paving and maintaining them a high priority in order to keep the roads in the best possible condition.

Fire and Rescue

Public safety fire and rescue programs are another focus of Mike’s efforts. In his recent Tazewell County supervisor term he helped acquire a new tanker truck for the Clear Fork Volunteer Fire Department using county funds.

I have worked in the mines and the coal industry my whole adult life and no one knows better than I how regulations are devastating our coal industry and our way of life.  No one will fight harder against these regulations than I will.

Thompson Valley VFD Grant

Being in office is about helping communities. Thompson Valley Volunteer Fire Department is one of those groups that work to help by seeking financial grants to help their community.  County funds assist them in making the money go further.

Coyote Problem

Coyotes continue to be problem in our farming area, so during Mike's term in office the board has partnered with the Farm Bureau to fund a bounty on these predators so our live stock can be raised in a safe environment.
